UPDATED 8/12/2020

York Water District and its staff continue to monitor the developments regarding COVID-19 (coronavirus).

During this pandemic, it has been clear that we needed to take some temporary/permanent measures to keep our employees safe and maintain our infrastructure and provide the town with the essential service of delivering safe drinking water here in York.

While our main office and facilities remain closed to the public. We urge you to take advantage of our online resources such as bill pay, water service applications, ATV permits, customer inquiries, water main extension applications and more. All of this can be found on this website. Customers may also use our “After Hours” drop box located at our main office on 86 Woodbridge Road for bill pay or any other communications.

If you have any issues please call our office at 207-363-2265 or email customerservice@yorkwaterdistrict.org.

The YWD has worked to restructure facilities so that our staff maintain a social distance of 6’ or more in our workspaces, whether in a facility or on a job site. We have developed new Standard Operating Procedures or SOP’s for working indoors, outdoors, how, and when can we enter a customer’s residence.

Our Treatment Plant is continuing to be operated by our licensed operators daily while meeting all water quality parameters to ensure our customers are receiving the high-quality water they are accustomed to. While one large-scale project, the treatment plant PLC replacement, has been postponed temporarily due to the pandemic the operators still maintain a full schedule with projects that cannot be delayed; such as replacing all deteriorating sub-floor electrical wiring, replacing a failed 4” check valve on our recycled backwash water line, replacing a failed chemical transfer pump, and replacing a failing hydro accumulator tank. Operators are also paying special attention to all chemical levels and reagent quantities to ensure they are ordered in advance in case there are delays with supply or delivery due to the pandemic.

Our Distribution Crews remain very busy with day to day operations maintaining the District’s 90 + miles of annual and seasonal water mains. Projects such as preparing our infrastructure in advance of Town of York paving projects, equipment repairs and prepping for several construction projects. Crews are flushing all dead-end lines to maintain excellent water quality.

Please be Advised

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic we must continue to take precautions to assure that our employees can continue to provide the essential water service our community depends on to get through this crisis. We are not scheduling any service calls that require our employees to enter any residence unless it is to turn on/off a water service or install/remove a water meter. To execute service/meter work orders, we must comply with CDC guidelines and ask you a few questions as follows:

1. Has anyone in your household traveled in the last 14 days to regions on the CDC’s COVID-19 Travel List?

2. Has anyone in your household been told that you have or are suspected of having COVID-19?

3. Does anyone in your household have symptoms of COVID-19, such as a fever, cough, or shortness of breath?

  • If the answer to any of these questions is “YES”, District staff cannot enter the home at this time. As a solution we can provide the meter to a plumber or caretaker to install and they can coordinate operation of the exterior shut off valve with the District.

Once we establish that we still need to provide service at your residence, there are a few more questions to ask:

1. Has anyone physically been in the property in the last two weeks?

2. Does your installation require access inside the living area of the house or structure?

3. Is there an alternate basement entrance for use by our service technicians?

  • If answered “YES” to questions 1 and 2, District staff cannot enter the home at this time. We can provide the meter to a plumber or caretaker to install and they can coordinate operation of the exterior shut off valve with the district.

When appointments are made, we are asking customers to practice social distancing and provide our staff the space necessary to do their work. As a precaution our meter crews are wearing necessary Personal Protective Equipment during each appointment and thoroughly cleaning in between appointments.
