The York Water District has had an active watershed monitoring program since the year 2000. An effective Source Water Monitoring Program involves establishing monitoring sites and regularly sampling for contaminants of concern. All sources of water, including tributaries should be monitored. Monitoring data must be recorded and organized to track trends over time, identifying and taking into account seasonal and annual fluctuations. This information is used to identify problems that may be occurring in water sources and the watershed and can be useful in tracking contaminates back to their source and in the selection of treatment options. Source Water Monitoring is time consuming and very costly but an essential endeavor in protecting the water supply
