The District has planned for emergencies by negotiating emergency interconnections agreements with both Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, and Wells Water District to the north and with Kittery Water District to the south.

In the event of an emergency we have the ability to take water from KKW or KWD. Or if they had an emergency we have the ability to send water to either utility. With both Districts we have signed agreements that determine the quantity and cost to move water when needed. A good example would be the 2010 algae bloom that we had in Chase’s pond. While we were working to resolve the issue in Chase’s Pond. We stopped supplying water to our Distribution system from our Water Treatment Facility and initiated our emergency interconnection with the KKW Water District. In February and March 2010 we took 20 million gallons.
