The York Water District raises the bar by providing the Residents of the Town of York with a superior public drinking water system by having well trained personnel using the most current means & methods available while maintaining the utmost in professionalism. We strive to continually upgrade and improve the Town’s 80+ miles of water distribution mains. York Water Districts Distribution system consists of one source of water, Chase’s Pond which has been the only source for over 100 years. The treatment process at the Josiah Chase Water Filtration Plant is known as direct filtration. The plant is capable of producing over 4 million gallons a day (MGD). A 16 inch transmission main runs from the plant across Interstate 95, and ties into the Distribution system on Route 1. Most of our pipe in the system is ductile iron water pipe, we do however have some cast iron in the system. We have 366 public hydrants and 69 private hydrants. The Distribution system contains two water storage tanks; a two million gallon storage tank on York Heights and a three million gallon storage tank on Simpson Hill in Cape Neddick. The District maintains emergency interconnetions with Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, and Wells Water District to the north in and with Kittery Water District to the south.
